Cong Bai for Head Colds

Michelle Racine

Got the sniffles? Here's a tip to use Chinese Medicine at home. Check your fridge for scallions, also known as spring onions. These fragrant little bitters are a great go-to at-home remedy for the early signs of the common cold.

Remove the outer layer, rinse under cold water, then cut up 1-2 onions in 1/4 inch slices. Steep in hot water for just a few minutes. Breathe in the steam for a moment of appreciation that this is ancient medicine you can have right in your kitchen. Sip throughout the day to combat chills, mild fever, runny nose, and sneezing. Because this medicinal tea is so dispersing, use sparingly if pregnant. Best if taken at the very first sign of a common cold.
